Anjali

I am 6 years old. I don’t go to school, but I come to study here. When I came to Open Book, I could not read much. My father does a normal job, my mother does a small job in a factory. My parents had brought me to get good education. All the children come here regularly to study and participate in other programs. I have enthusiasm to learn new things. I have knowledge of alphabet in Hindi, alphabets in English and can go up to 100 in maths. I know a little bit of Addition and Subtraction too. With practice, I want to master all subjects.

I study in class 6. My father used to drink a lot and hit me and my mother. Fed up with the cruelty of my father, my mother and I, left the house and shifted to my uncle’s place. With the help of my brother, my mother got married again and I stayed back and started studying.
Open Book Foundation is helping me study as the uncle is financially very weak.

In the beginning, I was very scared, but I have been learning computers and improving continuously. My confidence has also improved significantly.

I am 10 years old and studying in class 4. Me and my father used to sell vegetables around Open Book. When I started coming here, I was very scared and I thought I would not be able to even write my name. Open book gave me assurance that you can come here to study; I am very happy now. Initially, I had little knowledge of basic subjects and I did not come to study every day due to that fear. One day the director asked me why I don’t come everyday. So I told them that my father takes me to sell vegetables with him. She told me that I am very intelligent and I should come to study everyday. I am coming daily from then and have made lots of progress.

I am 6 years old and studying in nursery. When I came to the open book, I could not read or write. I was not in any school. My parents are very poor. My mother works in people’s house and my father works as a labor. My brother Govind also comes to study in Open Book. Slowly I am learning subjects and have started participating in programs. In Hindi, I started understanding alphabets, in Mathematics I know counting till 40.
My nature has changed too. I am more happy and I happily do all activities here.

Samiksha

I study in class 2. My father is a tailor who works in a showroom, and my mother takes tuitions at home. My family is struggling financially.

When I joined, I didn’t know how to read or write English and Hindi. But I have been learning with dedication.

Now, with the help of Open Book Foundation, I have learned reading, writing, etc and have been making significant progress.

My name is Vishal, 12 years old, and I didn’t go to school before coming here. My father does a simple job. My mother does a small job in a factory. Because my parents wanted me to study, I came to Open Book.

Now I know how to read and write in Hindi, I also have some knowledge of grammar. I know a little bit of English reading and writing too. In mathematics, I know tables upto 15. I have learnt simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division too.
